VISTAS provides professional educational services for students in Pre-K through 12th grade who are blind or visually impaired. VISTAS supports schools, families, and community organizations in effectively facilitating the growth and development of learners with visual impairments through highly specialized, research-based instructional and consultative services.
Direct Instruction Services – VISTAS provides Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) instruction to students in public and private schools throughout New Jersey. Areas of focus include but are not limited to braille and tactile skills, vision efficiency, daily living skills, and assistive technology. Beyond these core instructional areas, VISTAS assists schools in delivering educational services in the areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for Visually Impaired Youth.
Consultative Services – VISTAS assists school staff with the successful implementation of a student’s individualized education program through an interdisciplinary team approach. VISTAS provides educational support services that are customized to meet the specific needs of each student.
Community Based Program – VISTAS offers out of school time enrichment activities that are specifically adapted for individuals with visual impairment or blindness. These programs include after school and Saturday academies, summer camps, and special outings that promote the integration of individuals with visual impairments in community spaces.
Mentorship – After spending many years as an itinerant TVI, Monique Coleman, VISTAS president and founder, recognizes the importance of support and mentorship for novice TVI’s who are new to this complex and unique field of education. Schools can rest assured that when they hire a novice TVI, VISTAS veteran professionals, can provide direct mentorship to the TVI to ensure that the student receives effective instruction s/he deserves.

Training and Workshops – VISTAS provides professional development, coaching, and modeling strategies to enhance teacher performance and student achievement. Workshops for special and regular education teachers focus on instructional techniques, modification strategies, and specialized learning environments. Each consultative relationship is grounded in research-based practice and tailored to meet the school’s specific needs.
