Services We Offer

Itinerant TVI Instruction & Consultation

We provide IEP-driven Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) instructional services to students in public and private schools throughout New Jersey. Areas of focus include but are not limited to braille and tactile skills, vision efficiency, daily living skills, and access technology. 

Our certified TVIs work within an interdisciplinary team to help ensure that vision impaired students receive individualized instruction in essential areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for Visually Impaired Youth.

Educational Assessments

VISTAS provides the following essential evaluations for students with vision impairments in PreK through high school.  These assessments inform interdisciplinary teams in planning appropriate goals and instructional strategies for vision impaired students. 

  • Functional Vision Assessment
  • Learning Media Assessment
  • Expanded Core Curriculum Assessment
  • CVI Range for learners with Cortical (Neurological) Vision Impairment

Community-Based Enrichment

VISTAS offers out of school time enrichment activities that are specifically adapted for individuals with visual impairment or blindness. These programs include after school and Saturday classes, summer camps, and special outings.  We partner with community organizations to offer inclusive activities, and we also offer specialized programs geared specifically towards blind/low vision, compensatory skills.

Tactile and Digital Transcriptions

VISTAS provides braille/tactile and electronic document conversions to assist schools with ensuring that vision impaired students receive supplementary curriculum materials in an accessible format, at the same time as their sighted peers. Our in-house transcriber specializes in braille, tactile graphics, large print, and accessible document conversions across all subject areas and grade levels.
